The music of my soul...: OUCH!

OUCH!

What'd you do for the long weekend???
I did something really stupid!!!
I left my sunscreen at home. UGH.
I do not wish to post a picture of my lobster-look-a-like self for fear of imposing further pain upon myself and all of you when you break out in gutteral laughter, but you need no picture to imagine. I am very very sunburned! I think I'm about as burned as is possible before getting blistering sunburn, because this new burn is extremely painful!!!
So why did I leave my SPF 30 at home?

On Monday, Morgan, my parents, and I decided that we'd go for a nice mid-day hike. Nothing too long, because we all had other things to accomplish that day, but a nice leisurely hike down to a lake would be a relaxing afternoon trip.
So we decided on the Hiland trail. None of us had done it before, and we all wanted to do it. So we drove up the mountain, and set across the ravine with a beautiful sparkling blue lake on our minds.
For some reason, we guessed it'd only be a couple miles hike, no big deal. WE'd be gone for a couple hours. So none of us wore sunscreen! Not only that, but Morgan and I only had our Camel Packs, which both hold only 1 liter of water. This would have been fine for a couple mile hike, but this hike turned into a 10 mile, 6 hour long hike!!!
It was beautiful as we hiked the ravine in between the mountains, crossed a little river, and enjoyed a blue crystal lake. I tLOVED the trail and want to do it again, and camp overnight at the lake! However, the rationing of water, and burning of neck and shoulders really started to kick in about half way back.
Gah- now I'm miserable...miserably in pain. If only I'd listened to the little voice inside me saying, "Take sunscreen just incase!!"
I learned my lesson. Next time, even if it's only a mile hike, sunscreen's goin' on!

I will give you all the details, soon. I know our flight leaves here in the afternoon of August 4th, connects in Seattle and arrives in Anchorage, but I don't remember exact arrival/departure times. Isn't Anchorage far from you? :(
